Creative Routine For Authors
I love Joanna Penn and have followed her for years. I trust her. She has proven herself over the years as not only a bestselling author, but also an author who makes money and works diligently to help other authors. I read this blog post of hers a couple of times to make sure I understood what she is saying. I suggest that you read the entire blog post and let me know how you prefer to schedule your writing efforts.
“Be regular and orderly in your life so that you may be violent and original in your work.” Gustave Flaubert (author of Madame Bovary)
I know my client, Sue Hawley author of the Peg Shaw series of cozy mysteries, will wholeheartedly agree. She likes routine and even thrives on it from her farmhouse on top of Hawley Hill. Russell Little, another friend and client, prefers to write in cigar bars. He likes the hustle and bustle of being in a busy, smoke-filled place. Each author seems to have or to develop their own way and process of writing.
I had never thought of it before. This blog post and the quote from Gustave Flaubert suggest that authors, while most are orderly on a regular basis with a set route for their writing, let their creativity show in what they write. Do you agree? I want to hear from you.
