Getting Started with YouTube

By Sandy Lawrence on June 13, 2016 in Social Media

Do you have a YouTube Channel?   Do you post video’s for fun or for your business?  Just like you pick up followers for Facebook and Twitter, you can have followers on YouTube.

Getting Started with PR

You do not need to be a professional videographer.  You don’t need a lot of equipment.  And it is sort of fun.   All you need to get started is an idea or topic and your smartphone and a YouTube account.  The YouTube account is free to set up.

Choose a Topic

It can be about anything that interests you.   Something you are passionate about.  It can be a cause or something pertaining to your business.

What Is Your Message

Once you know the topic of your video, then figure out what you would like to say.  What will your message be.

Free YouTube Account

Sign up for your free account and then search your topic and see what others have posted.

Video With Your Phone

Take the video with your smartphone.

For the best quality video:

  • hold the phone horizontally
  • record in a well lit area
  • speak clearly and loud

Avoid using zoom since it often makes your video blurry.

YouTube Upload

You can use the free YouTube app right on your smartphone.

  • Signin
  • Tap the red upload button
  • Choose the video to upload
  • Name it

And you have produced your first YouTube video.

Promote Your Video

You knew I would have to add a little PR/marketing into this didn’t you?   Now that you have this new piece of content, give it as much social love as possible.

Some ideas:

  • Post the video on Facebook and Twitter
  • Pin the video on Pinterest.
  • Write a blog post about it and post the video.

There you have it, some easy and simple steps to get you started with your YouTube Channel.

I only have a few video’s but will be adding to my channel.  You can follow me here, Sandy’s YouTube Channel.

Do you have any hints or tips to add for people who are just getting started?  If so, please list them in the comments below.  I might include them in a future blog post.
